win win win

Gone are the days when you needed traffic to your blog to make money out of it .Now you can make money with almost zero traffic as well. How ..? You must be thinking .

The answer lies with the rich bloggers .These bloggers have money to spend on the blog promotion and thus more often than not run contests on their website .These contests only ask you to write about the contest and popularize it and that takes no more than a minute or two .

One such contest I participated in was an Entrecard contest and I got 50 entrecards just for a comment .

There are many websites where you can find the details of contests going on . One of them which I personally prefer is contest beat .

New Blog Milestone - 14,000 RSS Readers

14krss.gif Even after the competition with Shoemoney, the blog’s RSS readership continues to grow. Yesterday, it passed 14,000 readers for the first time. Today, it is at a record 14,109. I want to take this time to answer a few questions about the RSS that I’ve received since the contest. The first concern why the RSS count didn’t go down, since it looked like I was asking people to sub to my RSS by feeds, emails, toolbars, etc. One would assume that after the contest was over, many people would just cancel any additional subscriptions. The reason the RSS didn’t go down is because the majority of the subscriptions are in fact new. Darren Rowse at Problogger made a post asking if Shoe and I were preaching to the converted or really trying to reach new readers. The answer is we were trying to do both. The buzz generated by the competition brought us many new readers and help convert many current readers to add the blog’s RSS feed to their readers. Having multiple channels to reach your readership is never a bad thing. The other thing you have to consider is people are generally lazy. Once you get them to subscribe, chances are they won’t go thought the effort to unsubscribe even if they don’t like you. Marketers know this and take advantage of it all the the time. That’s why you see so many “Use it for 30 days free and if you don’t like it, send it back and pay nothing” promotions. They know that most are just too lazy to send it back. How Did Shoemoney Get Over 7,000 Subscribers In Two Days? This is the question everybody wants answered. I was kicking Shoe’s ass right up to end. Then he rocketed pass me on the last day to take the win. Many people assumed Shoe hid his real RSS count to throw me off and then put up his true count on the last day. However, that’s not what happen. So how did he do it? I cannot tell you the exact method Shoe employed because I promised to keep it between us, but basically he found a bug while studying FeedBurner and exploited it. We had no rules for this competition - anything goes and that included being extremely evil. And in this regard, Shoe out-eviled me. He did have this to say in his victory post.
Officially I won the contest, but I think the REAL winner will be revealed over the course of the next few months when all the people who only subscribing for the contest entries.
My RSS count is at 14,109. Shoemoney is at 13,103. Will the REAL winner please stand up?

Write A To-Post List For Your Blog

To Post ListHave you ever been in a situation where you have an idea for a post but then later you don’t remember it when you want to write the post? This has happened to me many times. I mostly get good ideas when I am away from my PC and later won’t remember what it was. To prevent this from happening, I recently created a text file named ‘topost.txt’ on my desktop and whenever I get an idea for a post I open the text file and write down a rough title for the post and describe the content of the post in a few words. If my computer is not turned on at the moment I get the idea, I write down the idea on a piece of paper and place it on my computer table so that I remember to add it to the text file the next time I turn on my PC. Ever since I started doing this I have managed to collect many ideas for posts. Try this for your blog too and maybe you will never run out of ideas on what to blog.

IPlagiarismCheck - Double Check With Them Before you publish content!

Well, we have little bit different and very important information today for all bloggers, webmasters, university students and authors online. In the current era of Internet, information is so easy to access. anytime, anywhere, anything can be found out on the Internet. you accept this fact, right? But, as they say every good thing comes with a black side. Internet is not an exception to this. Plagiarism is the worst thing that happens on Internet, and most of us are affected - whether you are a webmaster, blogger who sees your content stolen to update some one else’s blog or website. This takes a serious turn, when it goes to education field. University students need to prepare papers, but due to whole Internet spread across every computer, they don’t understand that copying content from here and there online and preparing there papers can land them up in Jail at times if the universities take action against them. Even, some people might think to just steal the content from an Universities papers, and update the content on their blog and make some money by pulling search engine traffic. Remember guys, if you earn $2500 from your website or online venture like this, you can be fined upto $250,000 and jail term as well. But what if it happens accidentally or unconsciously - there is still no escape! These organizations and Universities are taking hard line action against any type of plagiarism. If you ever have been stuck in such case before accidentally, you must be knowing the importance of knowing existence of same content online ahead of publishing the content on your website or blog. Well, to save you from such nuisances happening to you ever, I found out a website that will help you save from such charges - that is IPlagiarismCheck.com. This online IPlagiarismCheck tool performs online checks on documents that are to be examined. One cool feature of this tool is that an extensive report of this document check is generated. See a sample report that will give you details about percentage of copied text from other sources and these sources. They don’t only use University databases to check the content against, but also use search engines’ cached pages and synonymous content which probably no one else in this area provides. They are charging you high for using their service. I find this package quite reasonable. The packages have different prices for different levels of users, depending upon the usage. This varies from as low as $5 to $65 per year. Also, they have a very easy sign up process. Check out more details about it at their website. I am happy to bring this information to fellow webmasters, bloggers and visitors for their use.

One More Reason To Dump Google AdSense

clickzone.jpg Problogger.net broke a NDA to bring you news that Google is going to bitch slap your AdSense earnings by making it harder to click the ads. In the old AdSense setup, a reader just has to click anywhere inside the ad block to register a click and be sent to the advertiser. The new setup will require the readers to click on the actual ad title or the ad URL. The above click zone map shows what parts of the new ads are now clickable. As you can see, the click zone has been drastically reduced. The main reason for doing this according to Google:
We’re rolling out a change to our text ad formats to help reduce accidental clicks and increase value for advertisers…..This new format will match the changes we’ve implemented on Google.com to help decrease the number of accidental clicks and increase the number of ad conversions. A reduction in accidental clicks will keep users on your pages, interacting with your content until they choose to click on an ad. This change will enhance the user’s overall experience with your websites and improve advertiser campaign value, but it’s likely that your click-through rate will decrease.
It’ll be very interesting to see how the new setup will affect publishers’ AdSense earning. I don’t run Google AdSense on this blog but I have it on other sites. What do you think of Google’s new click zone? A good thing or one more reason to dump AdSense?

AtBatt.com - Batteries for every gadget

Every man on this earth is crazy about gadgets, and I am no exception to that. I just love flaunting these latest gadgets n gizmos I keep on buying. I am always looking for latest models of laptops, digital cameras, cell phones, MP3 players and so on. We just recently bought a Sony DSC-T200 and Dell Inspiron laptop. I will write about these gadgets pretty soon.

It’s easy to buy gadgets, nice to flaunt them and use them but not so easy efficiently use them. One of the most important parts of a gadget is its battery. If the battery is damaged or it’s not efficient, then the gadget is as good as nothing. So, it’s very important that you choose good quality batteries for your gadgets. In my opinion, it pays to get an additional battery for your favorite gadgets, so that damage in one battery doesn’t stop you instantly from using the gadget. Another factor is the extra cost involved in acquiring extra battery or even replacement battery. This where the discounts on batteries will help you to at least save some money.

Atbatt.com offers a wide range of batteries for almost all models of most popular brands of gadgets like laptops, cell phones, digital cameras, camcorders, DVD players, Cordless phones, PDAs, Notebooks, Scanners, and what not! They also have a special Clearance Sale, where you might find the batteries you want at cheaper rates. They also offer free ground shipping for orders $50 and above.

I recently purchased an additional battery for my Dell laptop from AtBatt.com, and I am very happy that I did. Just imagine, you are into an important presentation and your battery goes off or start warning you for low remaining power. I know you never ever would like to get into such situation. So better look for reliable source for batteries or additional batteries, and AtBatt.com is the place!

Great going

As sometimes I am on DigitalPoint.com I come across several people selling blogposts like they are doing it only for money. I usually do it because I do need some money to get established in the blogosphere and also to support my family. In the month of October I earned over a thousand dollars just by direct sales , advertising revenue , Blog posts, my network of sites and many more.

Overall I do not recommend having more than one site or maximum of 2 to 3 sites or blogs because it is indeed a very much high painstaking job to maintain blogs. Now when I try to maintain some of my blogs I usually get going with them very easily because they are very less in number but think for those who have around 100 or more sites ,how do they maintain their sites and how do they try to hold their sites. Now the month is November and I have thought to get a target or $1500+ this month which I think is not hard to achieve because I have already got @ $1000 and still there is half month left and If this will be my speed of earning money I will definitely tend to get around $2000 by this month’s end, and If I do get that much of amount I will hold a New Year contest which will include something and I will be looking for sponsors as well so that It might increase rating of my blog with the sponsor’s blog / site as well.

So who is going to support me in sponsoring the contest. I am definitely looking forward to have around 3 to 4 sponsors for my contest who will have all the authority like me but they will have to contribute in the contest ……. But do not think it otherwise .. I will be asking for advertisement space on your blogs only . Not for money from you. The contest Prize would be at $100 (Worth Prizes) for First Winner and may be we can decide about second and third place as well..

So wait for the contests that are coming on the New Year’s Eve and also on Christmas ……………. Keep coming to this blog and wait for some more action

TTZ Media Network Server Upgrade

We recently completed a server upgrade to the TTZ Media Network in order to handle the influx of new affiliates. The new setup consists of the following.
  • Two Load Balancers Servers
  • Two Dual Quad-Core Xeon Clovertown 2.0Ghz web servers with 8 GB of RAM and RAID 1 hard drives
  • One Dual Quad-Core Xeon Clovertown 2.0Ghz database server with 4 GB of RAM
  • One Pentium E 1.6GHz backup server, 512 MB of RAM, 4 x 320GB IDE, 960GB Usable Space, RAID-5
  • One router for inter server communication
The six server monster was supplied, set up and configured by BlueFur Web Hosting at a cost of $3,000 per month (get 15% off when you use the JohnChowRock coupon code). We are still doing some fine tuning. A setup like this is like a high end sport car - it need to be tuned to get maximum performance. Right now, we are trying to improve the syncing of the two web servers so information updates across both servers at the same time. Many people will say the above setup can be had for a lot less than $3,000 per month and they would be correct - for unmanaged servers. However, this is a fully managed setup. If anything goes wrong, I don’t have to go down to the data center - it’s BlueFur’s problem, not mine. I’m not a server admin so I want a fully managed installation. You pay more but you have piece of mind. How Much Should You Spend On Web Hosting? This is an often asked question. Most people don’t have a problem paying $5 to $10 per month for web hosting. However, when it starts pushing into the thousands, it’s another story. My general rule of thumb is web hosting should not consume more than 5% of the site’s online income. That means if you’re paying $3,000 a month for web hosting, the site better be making at least $60,000 a month. Many web publishers like to put off an upgrade for as long as possible but I think that is a mistake. You maybe saving money but I guarantee you any savings would be completely wiped out (and more) if the server goes down because you were too cheap to upgrade. At the rate TTZ Media is growing, I expect this upgrade to last a few months before I need to upgrade again.

Scot Lies Some More

It appears Mr Scot Smith from RSSxplosion.com is now trying to compete with himself for the stupid cow of the month award. Just after we said that it would be hard to top his stupidity, he proves us wrong with yet another email. This time it’s a receipt that states that we’ve ordered 12,000 RSS subscribers from him. Scot, we all have silly ideas from time to time, just be kid enough to admit it, drop the project and move on. Is all this negative attention, that is ruining your online rep for years to come, really worth the few bucks you’ll make of poor and unsuspecting newbies? How is business going for sales@rssxplosion.com anyway Scot? Made enough to buy a happy meal yet? We didn’t order anything so stop sending us fake receipts. And if you really want to make it look legit, at least change the confirmation URL in the email you’ve been sending around to more bloggers. ChipSEO.com received exactly the same email. Seriously, you need to start devoting your time and fruitless efforts in something else, perhaps a life? Anyhoo, here’s the email we received:
RSS Xplosion wrote: Bob,This is an automatically delivered message from RSSXplosion.com to confirm your order of 12,000 RSS Subscribers to be delivered in bulk on 11-13-07 @ 12pm EST. Now quit bugging us please Scot, this is the last piece of attention we’re gonna give you. Unless you manage to think up some more stupid stuff after this. Somehow we feel this isn’t the last we’ll hear from you.

Deal of the Day - Give a Laptop, Get a Laptop

Give One Get One The mission of One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) is to empower the children of developing countries to learn by providing one connected laptop to every school-age child. In order to accomplish this goal, they need people who believe in what they’re doing and want to help make education for the world’s children a priority, not a privilege. Between November 12 and November 26, One Laptop Per Child is offering a Give One Get One program in the United States and Canada. During this time, you can donate an XO laptop to a child in a developing nation, and also receive one for the child in your life in recognition of your contribution. This is the first time the XO laptop has been made available to the general public. For your donation of only $399, you will be sending one XO laptop a child in a developing nation and one will be sent to the child in your life (or yourself) in recognition of your contribution. $200 of your donation is tax-deductible (your $399 donation minus the fair market value of the XO laptop you will be receiving). For all U.S. donors who participate in the Give One Get One program, T-Mobile is offering one year of complimentary HotSpot access. This is a great opportunity to give and receive. You can be among the first to get your hand on an XO laptop and empower a child at the same time. Thanks to Colin Dean for making me aware of this program. I’ve placed my order. How about you?

Get New Readers For Your Blog By Guest Blogging

Guest BloggingHave you fed your new blog with many quality posts and yet find that your blog is not read by others? Content is surely king but it isn’t enough to increase your blog subscribers. People need to know that your blog exists and for that you need to promote your blog.

There are many ways to promote your blog and get new readers. Some include commenting regularly on other blogs having similar content to that of yours, advertising on popular blogs in your niche and submitting your posts to Digg, Stumble Upon and Del.icio.us.

But one of the best way is to guest blog on popular blogs in your niche. By guest blogging you get visitors to your blog who are already interested in the topic you write and therefore are more likely to convert to regular readers whereas visitors from sites like Digg, Stumble Upon and Del.icio.us mostly will just read your post once and never return again.

Every blog has their own set of readers, and guest blogging on it exposes your blog to them. Though not all of those readers will check out your blog, they will surely notice your blog name and the next time you guest blog on the same blog or another blog they read, they will want to check out your blog.

While regular commenting and advertising on blogs in your niche will help you get new readers for your blog, you can get more new readers if you guest blog as it is the post that readers pay more attention to and not the sidebar or the comments.

Before you Guest Blog

Before you guest blog, you need to make your blog ready to convert the new visitors that you will you get by guest blogging to regular readers. You can do this by

  • writing more quality posts
  • getting your blog a good design
  • offering subscription options above the fold

Once you are ready

Once you are ready, find a blogger who owns a popular blog that has content similar to that of your blog and check the previous guest posts on it to find what type of posts the blog owner likes and then contact him/her.

If you are not sure what to guest blog, check the posts on the blog you want to write a guest post on to see what all they have covered on the topic and what they they have not covered completely.

When you contact bloggers, make sure you let them know the the title of your post and if they are interested you can send them the post. While it is a good idea to link back to your own blog posts on your guest post, don’t over do it (one or two links should be fine).

Note that all bloggers you contact may not accept your guest post, simply because they get many requests from other bloggers too or maybe because they prefer accepting guest posts from people they know.

So it’s a good idea to get yourself and your blog noticed by these bloggers before you contact them.

To get noticed, you can -

  • leave meaningful comments regularly on their blog
  • write a blog post linking to one or more of their posts
  • email them saying how much you enjoy their content (making sure you mention your name and your blog)
  • chat with them if possible (check their about page to see if they have mentioned their Instant Messenger IDs)

Darren has shared some great tips on how to pitch to bloggers, be sure to read it.

Always be polite when you contact bloggers and if they still reject your guest post, try another popular blog owner and if they all reject you can still publish that post on your blog. Thus the time you took to write the post is not wasted.

After getting your guest post published

Once your guest post has been published on their blog -

  • write a post on your blog welcoming the visitors from that blog
  • link to some of your popular posts of your blog in that post
  • link to your Top Posts page too if you have one
  • make sure you keep updating your blog regularly and these new visitors will convert to regular readers

If you get the chance to submit another guest post on that blog, bring back the previous welcome post to your blog’s homepage using the WP-Sticky WordPress plugin (if you own a WordPress blog) or you could just write another welcome post.

Other advantages guest blogging offers is that you get a link back to your blog which will help you increase your blog traffic. The blogger you write a guest post for may also subscribe to your blog’s feed and may link to some of your future posts if they like them, getting you even more new readers for your blog. You also become much closer to the blogger and they may even accept more guest posts from you.

Have you guest blogged before? If so, did you notice any big jump in your blog’s feed count after that?

Telemarketing Calls

I got a funny mail today which I thought I should share with all of you . So I am sharing this today as well. As you know the telemarketing calls are the calls which most of the Indians are fed up of but still the telemarketers do not stop to call. Recently I was watching a program on CNN IBN where the program was about the call center guys . Now As I worked in a call center , I know exactly how it feels in a call center. So Those who are fed up of telemarketing calls here is an advice though funny (Should taken in Humor and not taken seriously)

1. After the telemarketer finishes speaking, ask him/her to marry you.

2. Tell the telemarketer you are busy at the moment, and ask him/her, if he/she will give you his/her home phone number so you can call him/her back.

3. Ask them to repeat everything they say, several times.

4. Tell them it is dinner time, BUT ask if they would please hold. Put them on your speaker phone while you continue to eat at your leisure. Smack your food loudly and continue with your dinner conversation.

5. Tell them that all business goes through your agent, and hand the phone to your five year old child.

6. Tell them you are hard of hearing and that they need to speak up…. louder…louder. ..louder!

7. Tell them to speak very slowly because you want to write every word down.

8. If they start out with, “How are you today?”, say “I’m so glad you asked, because no one these days seems to care, and I have all these problems…. ……… ”

9. Cry out in surprise, “Helen, is that you? I’ve been hoping you’d call! How is the family?” When they insist they are not Helen, tell them to stop joking. This works especially well if the telemarketer is really MALE.

10. Tell the ICICI call center guy to call on your Office number.- and give him the HSBC call center number.

Too cool for school

We’ve always considered ourselves cool cows. We were dealing Pogs before all the other cows in the barn and we had more Monster in My Pocket than anybody else. Ah, those were the days – when you could impress a girl with nothing more than a video of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and your Matt Trakker action figure. Before we get lost in all this coolness, we’ve got this rather cool website to review. 1CoolFile.com is looking for a bit of that famous John Cow review love.

1coollogo.png

According to the tag line, “it’s the site to find 1 Cool File or blog.” It’s basically a paid directory with a few extra trimmings. The “Blog Directory” section is the only place where you’ll find blogs. Guess we should have seen that one coming.

So far, there are only nine blogs in there. We went over to the “Money” section and found our blog. Looking at the listing, we were a bit confused as to why the link was nofollowed. After a bit of investigation, we found this:

All links get the nofollow tag. It’s not a way to get more PageRank “juice”. This is to be in accordance with Google and paid links. It’s traffic that is more important.

We then came across a “Buy Now” button in our listing. For a minute, we thought they were trying to sell our blog for $200.

The penny dropped when we headed over to the “FAQ” section. The blog directory is geared towards providing a market place for bloggers to sell paid reviews. To utilize the directory, we think this element could be highlighted. As it is, unless you know the deal with 1CoolFile, you probably wouldn’t think you could buy a paid review from the blogs listed.

If you want to add your blog to 1CoolFile, you can do so for $2.50 a year. For $11.50 you can get a blog buffet. Our ears pricked up when heard the word “buffet”, but alas, it’s got nothing to do with eating. It just means you can add as many blogs as you like, for life. For $3 a month, you can advertise in the “Blog For Sale” section.

We then found the “Advertising” page. Listings cost from $2.50 a month up to $50 a month. 1CoolFile has a solid Page Rank of 6 with 34,500 Yahoo! backlinks. If it can get the traffic to match, then the advertising would be worth buying.

As well as blogs, 1CoolFile lists software, comprising everything from anti-spam software and font tools, to FTP clients and firewalls. It’s all free to download and if you have something you want to upload, you can do so in the “Submit Software/Blog” section. There is also the possibility of being paid to review some of the software that people upload.

One of the main draws of 1CoolFile is the affiliate program (aff, arf, Alf!). There are three levels to the program. To become a basic affiliate, you must buy a one-year blog package. You then receive 10% in first-level commissions. To become a regular affiliate, you need to buy a blog buffet. Your first-level commissions will be 15% and your second-levels 5%. Payments are made by Paypal. The only problem is that the payouts are set at a minimum of $100. We think that ought to be lowered.

You must have a blog to join the affiliate program. To really benefit, you need to become a platinum member, which pays 35% and 15% first- and second-level commissions respectively. The minimum payout is $25. You have to pay $45 for membership though.

We like the concept of 1CoolFile and we think it’s worth checking out. The only problem we had was figuring out exactly what everything did. We’re simple cows and we like simple things.

If you want to get down with the cool kids, 1CoolFile is currently offering a promotion throughout November. If you buy a blog package for the discount price of $1 for a year, you’ll automatically be entered into a draw to win one of 10 platinum memberships. Use the coupon code “JC-100” to get your discount and get entered into the contest. For $1 a pop, we reckon it’s worth a go.

Well, all this talk of cool stuff has got us feeling a little frosty. Speaking of which, we’re going to go and dig up our Mr Frosty and see if he’s still able to come up with the good stuff.

Update: The guys over at 1CoolFile just came with a couple more promotions to tempt you over there. First up, if you use the coupon code “JC-50UOFF”, you’ll get 50% off the tasty blog buffet. Even better, with the coupon code “JC-50PMOFF” you’ll get 50% off that platinum membership.
